Whirlpool Dryer Airflow: Safe Checks Before Vent Service

Documentation checkedBy ErrHiveUpdated

START HERE

Start with the lint screen and visible exhaust path. Long drying times or an airflow warning can justify inspection of the full vent route.

Clean the lint screen

Whirlpool recommends cleaning the lint screen after every load. Follow your model guide for removing and reinstalling it.

Notice the warning signs

Longer drying, unusual heat at the dryer or a burning smell can accompany an obstructed vent. Stop using a dryer that smells burnt or overheats and arrange help.

Keep the inspection accessible

Look at the exterior exhaust outlet and visible duct section. Do not move a heavy appliance alone. Disconnect power before maintenance and leave gas connections to a qualified professional.

A clean screen is only one part

Lint can accumulate along the duct run. If the warning or poor drying persists, ask a vent specialist to inspect and clean the full route. This guidance is for vented dryers; ventless machines use a different system.
